June 7 & 8, 2013: Philosophy for Children Teacher Workshop
Course content:
This two-day practical and experiential workshop enables teachers to begin facilitating philosophical inquiry in the classroom. Participants will be involved in "communities of inquiry" in the same way that their students would be, and a variety of processes will be modelled. Practical pedagogy sessions will cover the following topics: the nature of the community of inquiry, the role of the facilitator, techniques for developing philosophical skills and making inquiry more rigorous, using exercises and discussion plans, keeping the discussion philosophical, planning and evaluating sessions and a survey of available resources.
